The Florida Supreme Court is in the middle of an appeals court’s decision that answered the question of how close is too close when it comes to social media. The issue at hand arose after an attorney argued that the judge assigned to his case should not have jurisdiction, due to the judge’s Facebook relationship with the prosecutor–they’re “friends.” The Fourth District Court of Appeal ruled that the judge had to remove himself from the case, as it violated Florida’s judicial ethics code. It is now up to the Florida Supreme Court to draw the blurry line between real life and the Internet. Oh, the tangled interwebs we weave.
